Interests & Hobbies
Meaning of Life:
Life is meaningless, beyond the meaning and purpose we lend to it as individuals. We all are. It's what we choose to be that defines us. I choose to strive to search out the people and things I value as good, and keep them close to me, in an effort to be a happier guy. I choose not to focus on the material, for little of it is consequential to our being, and most of it distracts us from the world around us. That said, I'll likely not give up my computer anytime soon. I probably should, but I'm thoroughly addicted...lol
Five Things I Can't Live Without:
The mountains and streams, the woods and the deep dark places... I belong to the earth, and cannot live without it.
Favorite Books:
McCarthy's Blood Meridian, Martin's Song of Fire and Ice series, Simmon's The Terror, and various others in related genres
What I Like To Do For Fun:
All that's covered below, so read on. In addition, I game as well, and by that I mean almost any type of game; board, card, RPG's, PC... preferably something that involves imagination, but simple time wasters can be fun as well.
Favorite Songs:
I can enjoy just about any music, from classical to industrial, acoustic indie to electro punk... not to say I like all music, but labels aren't as important as sound.
Favorite Movies:
Too many to list... Particular genres? Most... At the moment, I'm on a zombie flic kick, tomorrow it could be crime stories, next week fantasy... depends on mood, I guess.
Craziest Thing I've Ever Done:
Standing on the edge of the Kilauea lava flow in the middle of the night... that was an amazing experience, but it wasn't the smartest thing I had ever done. Trying to get out of there with only a headlamp proved to be a bloody trek.
If I Could Be Anywhere Right Now:
Right now? Laying under the stars at the top of Chimney Peak.
Hobbies:
I don't get outdoors nearly as much as I'd like, a side effect of having a job I love, but which requires a lot of hours over 40. So I'll visit the landscapes in my mind while reading a good book, or watching a decent movie. When I have the time, give me a peak to climb... it may take me a while, but there's nothing better than standing on a precipice, looking over a pristine mountain range, and seeing the world as it was meant to be. Alternatively, I enjoy donning a helmet and a headlamp, and immersing myself in the silent dark of a cave, where time means nothing to the ageless stone...
Talents:
I enjoy writing, again, when I have the time... I play around on guitar, albeit poorly, but still, it's creative fun way to pass the time.
Perfect Mate:
I've stopped looking for the 'perfect' mate long ago. I have few requirements, but I detest complications. I have no use for drama. I want someone who enjoys a simple life, someone who inspires me to be more active in my interests, and someone with whom I can share those interests on a fairly equal footing. I want someone who shares my values as to what is good in life, and seeks to keep those things close at hand. But as I said, I'm done looking. In my experience, the things found unexpectedly are far more enjoyed than those that are acquired through the searching. The expectation of achievement rarely meets the reality.
Perfect Date:
Exploring a wild place we've never been, and spending all day there, not encountering another soul. I think something about a shared discovery binds people in a truer sense. The weather doesn't have to be perfect... fun can be had in the rain. The trail doesn't have to be perfect... navigating by compass can be an adventure. Just being together and enjoying the experience is enough for me.
Turn Ons/Offs:
Let's see, things that get my attention... good natured laughter, a generous smile, sincerity, a love of nature, mixed with a touch of mischief and a good ear for music.
Things that are repellent to me... negativity, whining, gossiping, striving to keep up with the Joneses, needing conflict to have meaning, and a general lack of spirit.
Best Reason to Get to Know Me:
I enjoy people who enjoy life.
